Rehabilitation of Kilinochchi Inochchi tank and Thelikarai tank commenced recently under Climate Smart Irrigated Agriculture Project (CSIAP) being implemented in the northern province under the Ministry of Agriculture.
Those rehabilitations commenced at the hands of Mahinda Amaraweera, Minister of Agriculture, Wildlife and Forest Resource Conservation. Rs.70 Million is to be spent for this purpose by Climate Smart Irrigated Agriculture Project being implemented under World Bank financing.
Rehabilitations commenced in keeping with Hindu Tradition which were attended by massive crowd.
Speaking on this occasion, the Minister said that the distribution of Urea requirement for Maha season first commenced from Northern Province.
“We have already taken steps to send initial stock being 200 Metric Tons of Urea to Jaffna and would take measures to fulfill Urea requirement in the future. People in the Northern Province are successfully engaging in agriculture output of which help to balance rates in the local market.”
At the time of receiving Urea fertilizer for the last Yala season harvesting in Jaffna, Kilinochchi Mullaitivu and Batticaloa districts had commenced. Therefore, it was not necessary to send Urea to farmers in those areas.
That’s why we take steps to send first consignment of Urea to the people in the Northern Province for cultivation during this Maha season,” said the Minister.
