Wives of foreign diplomats, under the banner of Islamabad Foreign Women’s Association (IFWA), arranged a cultural event on Friday to raise funds for rural education, women’s welfare and childcare activities.

A press release issued by KHM Couture said that IFWA, formed in 1972, meets every month to discuss such issues over coffee. The Friday’s cultural event was hosted by Ghousoun Joumas Muhra, wife of Dr Ali Muhra, the Syrian Ambassador, at her residence.

More than 80 women, mostly wives of the ambassadors and representatives of heads of missions, including IFWA’s acting President Nariko Prati, wife of the Italian Ambassador, attended the reception.

The event began with a film presentation on Syria by Muhra, followed by
an exhibition of Syrian artifacts, including beautiful hand-crafted home decor items, mozaic jewellery boxes, furniture, Syrian traditional dresses, and paintings. Syrian food delicacies were presented alongside tea.

Fawzia Nisar Memon and Kanwal Hashmat Malik organised the event. Malik was recently selected to be one of the 29 entrepreneurs invited from 29 countries by the US department of State to the United States of America for  International Visitors Leadership Programme on her outstanding “entrepreneurship and innovation”.
